Reality on Paper: Watercolors by Tim Lewis, WSI
March 15 – April 24 | McFarland Hall Gallery
From the Artist, Tim Lewis:
A streak of rust on an old, decaying metal shed. A ghost sign on the side of a corner bar. A dandelion growing out of the rot of an old garage door. Signs of the past labors and remnants of lost stories. Sprinkle in treasured memories from our life and travels and you have the things that interest me and spark my creativity. I choose to capture these memories and stories in my realistic watercolors. A bit “radical” as watercolor isn’t usually thought of as a medium for realism, but I love the challenge and the rewards of this interesting medium.
Although I received an Associate Degree in Technical Illustration from Purdue University in 1971, I became involved in the plastics industry soon after and spent my working career managing injection molding companies. My artistic interest was rekindled upon retirement by a gift of watercolor paints and brushes from my adult children. I fell immediately in love with the medium, its difficulties, surprises, and rewards and have painted almost exclusively inwatercolor since.
